NEW YORK, N.Y. – UMass Lowell women’s lacrosse alum Noelle Lambert was named the 2020 Women of Worth National Honoree, as announced by L’Oréal Paris on Giving Tuesday.
After being named one of 10 Women of Worth finalists and receiving $10,000 for her Born to Run Foundation back in October, Lambert was selected as the 2020 National Honoree through a nationwide, online public vote. She was honored with an additional $25,000 to support her mission of providing specialized prosthetics to amputees.
“It is such an incredible honor to be the 2020 Women of Worth National Honoree,” said Lambert. “To be recognized among the other nine amazing honorees is such a humbling experience. Thank you so much to every single person who voted for myself and the Born to Run Foundation. This wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for you. And lastly, thank you so much to L’Oréal Paris for this amazing donation and all of this recognition. This is going to change so many people’s lives.”

Helen Maroulis Wants to Compete at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo
Rio Olympic 53 kg champion Helen Maroulis of the U.S. gave a lengthy interview to United World Wrestling and underscored her desire to compete at the highest level in Tokyo in 2021:
“I always take things one at a time and I always do it to pursue excellence. So, to me, I committed to this goal, I committed to four years. I’ve been through a lot with all these physical injuries, mental, all this stuff, so for me, I made a commitment and made a decision, so I am seeing this through.
Now recovered from two years of injuries that included a concussion, Maroulis qualified the U.S. for the 57 kg class with a brilliant Olympic qualifying tournament in February 2020, stomping reigning World Champion Linda Morais (CAN) by 12-2 in her opener and then outscored her next three opponents by 26-2. Maroulis still has to make the U.S. team, but was asked about the difficult field she could face at 57 kg in Tokyo, including Japan’s Risako Kawai, the reigning 57 kg World Champion. Maroulis was unafraid:
“This is my dream come true, right? When you think about winning Olympic gold, it’s not just like you want the medal for the sake of the medal, , you’re like, I want it to be the toughest competition because the point of being the best is you want to know that you beat everyone else who you think is incredible.”
Off the mat, she shared her new interest in salsa dancing, where she is learning a lot and said, “I enjoy it just as much as wrestling.” Is that in her future? Maybe, but she also sees herself giving back to wrestling as a coach, helping others to learn as she has.

By Beth Ann Nichols | December 12, 2020 9:57
HOUSTON – Kaitlyn Papp first picked up a golf club, a cut-down putter, on the island of Okinawa where her dad, Tony, was stationed as a Navy Medical Service Corps officer.
“We would practice putting next to the flight line,” said Tony. “The green perched up nice and high and we could look out and watch the jets come in and come out.”

The 10-team World Cup which has now been rescheduled to 9-26 February 2023 will see the hosts South Africa and the seven top teams on the MRF Tyres ICC Women’s T20I Team Rankings as of 30 November 2021 – from the teams that competed at the Australia 2020 event – qualify automatically for the 2023 edition.
The remaining two spots will be determined through a qualification process which is scheduled to start at regional level in August 2021 and includes 37 teams. Like every other part of 2020, Kaitlyn Papp’s preparation for the U.S. Women’s Open included something non-traditional: a graduation ceremony. Not surprisingly, she didn’t walk. Instead, the Texan pulled up a Zoom link and watched the ceremony from home. She already received a cap and gown from the university and everything.
Papp finished off her degree in physical culture and sports from the University of Texas in three and a half years, a notable feat for the two-time First-Team All-American who owns two individual titles as a Longhorn.

By: Julia Pelly | Girls Who Run
Gratitude, or the simple practice of noticing and appreciating the good things around us, is something that’s often at the forefront of parents’ and caregivers’ minds this time of year. Most adults want to help their girl develop a solid sense of gratitude because they know how beneficial noticing and appreciating the things in our lives can be. According to Harvard Health, those who practice gratitude tend to have lower levels of stress, report higher levels of life satisfaction, and enjoy better relationships with their family and friends.
While the evidence is clear that practicing gratitude can be beneficial, the way that many well-meaning parents aim to teach their girls gratitude can be problematic. When parents and caregivers begin talking to their girl about gratitude, many start by comparing her life to someone else’s in order to point out exactly what she should be grateful for. For example, being grateful for physical health because others are sick, being grateful for a supportive person in their life because not everyone has one, being grateful for food or material things because others don’t have what you have. Comparison-based gratitude may seem like an easy way to help a girl become mindful of the good in her life, but, in practice, it often serves only to reinforce the idea that she should be comparing herself and her life to others.
