CORVALLIS, Oregon – Oregon State head coach and Beaver Dam RTC president Chris Pendleton announced on Thursday the addition of two-time World bronze medalist Alyssa Lampe to its athlete roster.
“The Pacific Northwest has produced some of the true pioneers for women’s wrestling, and with that said we are proud to announce the addition of two-time World bronze medalist Alyssa Lampe to our RTC,” Pendleton said. “When we had the idea of starting the Beaver Dam Regional Training Center, we had a vision of creating a RTC that’s was one of the most Inclusive in the world. That’s the beauty of wrestling, it’s a sport for everyone.”
Lampe recently made a comeback to the sport after taking a break following the 2016 Olympic Team Trials. In December, she entered the 2019 Senior Nationals at 50 kg, where she dominated her way to the title. Just two months ago, she was third at the 2020 Senior Nationals.
Even though she took a couple of years off from the sport, Lampe is considered one of the top contenders for next year’s Olympic Team.
Lampe joins the Beaver Dam RTC from Norwich University in Vermont, where she coached and trained with former World Team member Erin Clodgo. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Lampe has had minimal opportunities to train as the state was shutdown.
“Covid made it difficult to get any training in leading up to the Olympic year. That’s a huge reason why I’m heading to the Beaver Dam RTC,” Lampe said. “I think the coaching staff in Corvallis is the best fit for me. I’ve known Coach Nate Engel for several years, and I’m confident that it’s the place that can help me the most in my Olympic pursuit. I just want to thank the Norwich program for taking me in as one of their own last year. I wish I didn’t have to move. I wish things were different, but unfortunately, that’s the case.”
Beginning her Senior career in 2007, Lampe was a six-time National Team member at 48 kg/105.5 pounds and represented the U.S. at five World Championships (2010, 2012-2015). Of her five World bids, Lampe collected bronze medals at the 2012 and 2013 World Championships. She was also fifth at the 2015 Worlds in Las Vegas.
As an age-group athlete, Lampe was a two-time Junior World bronze winner. The Beaver Dam RTC was started in 2020 after Pendleton was named the new Oregon State head coach in late-March. Other athletes training with the Beaver Dam RTC include two-time NCAA champion and two-time Final X runner-up Isaiah Martinez and three-time U.S. Open place winner Mike Kosoy. Both serve on the Oregon State coaching staff as assistants.
