We are excited to announce our June Athlete of the Month, Jamie Ortega! Ortega is a returning four-time All-America and one of the nation’s top offensive players at the University of North Carolina. Inside Lacrosse named her the No. 2 overall men’s or women’s player in the nation for the 2022 season and she was also named a 2022 Preseason First-Team All-America by Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Magazine. Ortega is Carolina’s career leader in goals and has scored two or more goals in 63 of 69 career games . She has 353 career points (fifth in ACC history) and her 265 career goals were tied for ninth in NCAA history and were third in ACC annals. Orgtega has scored five or more goals 26 times as a Tar Heel, has scored at least one goal in 34 consecutive games entering 2022, and has tallied at least one point in 63 consecutive games and 68 of 69 in her career. Additionally, she is fourth in Carolina history in career assists with 88. Her career points per game average of 5.12 is the best in UNC history by over a goal and her 3.84 career goals per game average was also by far the best in school history.
