NADIA ESTRADA
WRESTLING
The American Gold Sports Alliance (AGSA) is happy to welcome Nadia Estrada to our growing list of AGSA Athletes of the Month. Nadia had a wonderful high school career, with only COVID getting in the way of her being a four-time Maryland Girls State Champion. She was the first three-time Maryland Girls State Champion, representing Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD. It was exciting to see Nadia complete her high school wrestling career as a champion. As impressive as Nadia is on the mat and in the classroom (3.9 GPA), she has been a mentor and a leader of other female wrestlers, at Richard Montgomery High School and with the other Montgomery County Maryland area schools. Girls wrestling is still growing in Maryland, so not all teams field a full girls lineup in all weights. Throughout the 2023 season, and especially in preparation for the county, regional, and State championships, Nadia organized girl specific practices at multiple schools, initiated communication with girls from the surrounding schools through text, emails, and social media, coordinated transportation to the girls practices, served as a liaison with coaches from numerous schools, and sought out other female wrestlers to include into her ever-growing cadre of girls wrestlers that she mentored. In the first year of the Montgomery County (Maryland) Girls Wrestling Tournament, Nadia earned a personal county championship, while leading her team to 3 rd place in the inaugural event. Nadia continued her winning ways by winning the Maryland West Regional Championship, on her way to her third Maryland State Championship.
Nadia collected numerous accolades in the postseason including:
Washington Post All-Met Honorable Mention (Only one of two female wrestlers recognized)
National Wrestling Coaches Association High School Scholar All-American
National Wrestling Coaches Association High School Character; Leadership Nominee
2023 Richard Montgomery Wrestling Most Valuable Player AGSA wishes the best for Nadia, as she starts at the University of Maryland, this Fall
