Kate Douglass- Swimming
December’s Athlete of the Month honor goes to the remarkable swimmer, Kate Douglass. Born on November 17, 2001, Douglass’s talent in swimming became evident when she won her first major international medal, a bronze in the 200m individual medley, at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Throughout her tenure at the University of Virginia from 2019 to 2023, Douglass emerged as an NCAA swimming sensation. Her outstanding performances led to numerous victories, including seven gold medals at the 2023 NCAA Championships, setting records and contributing significantly to Virginia’s three consecutive NCAA team titles.
Graduating with a degree in statistics in May, Douglass continued to excel, securing multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals at both the 2023 U.S. National Championships and the World Championships. Her exceptional achievements culminated in being named Female Athlete of the Year at the Golden Goggle Awards in November, alongside swimming legend Katie Ledecky.
Douglass’s dedication to excellence and her stellar performances throughout the year make her a standout in competitive swimming. Her impact extends beyond the pool, inspiring athletes globally with her extraordinary accomplishments.
